Lenders value gold at the lower of the 30-day average and the previous day's 22K rate, and reduce the value for lower purity. For bullet loans, interest due at maturity counts within the LTV limit. Estimate only; the lender's assay and rate decide the final amount.

A gold loan lets you borrow against jewellery or coins you pledge with a bank or NBFC. How much you can borrow depends on three things: the weight and purity of the gold, the lender's gold rate, and the loan-to-value (LTV) limit set by RBI. This calculator estimates the maximum loan, the loan per gram and the interest you would pay for bullet or EMI repayment.

How to use this calculator

  1. Enter the net weight of the gold in grams, without stones or other materials.
  2. Choose the purity: 24K, 22K, 20K or 18K.
  3. Enter today's 22-carat gold rate per gram. Lenders use the lower of the 30-day average and the previous day's closing rate.
  4. Pick personal or agricultural purpose and bullet or EMI repayment.
  5. Enter the lender's interest rate and the tenure, and optionally the loan amount you actually want.

How the calculation works

Gold value = weight × 22-carat rate × (purity ÷ 22).

Maximum loan = gold value × LTV, where the LTV is 85% for total loans up to ₹2.5 lakh, 80% up to ₹5 lakh and 75% above ₹5 lakh. For bullet loans, principal plus the interest due at maturity must fit within that limit.

Interest: bullet loans use simple interest paid at the end; EMI loans use the standard reducing-balance EMI formula.

Purity Gold content Value vs 22K
24 carat 99.9% about 109%
22 carat 91.6% 100%
20 carat 83.3% about 91%
18 carat 75% about 82%

Things to check before you pledge gold

All figures are estimates. The lender's purity test, its gold rate and its loan policy decide the final amount.

Frequently asked questions

How much gold loan can I get per gram?

Multiply the gold's value per gram by the LTV allowed: up to 85% for total loans up to ₹2.5 lakh, 80% up to ₹5 lakh and 75% above that. At an illustrative 22-carat rate of ₹12,800 a gram, 85% LTV gives about ₹10,880 a gram before any interest adjustment.

Does the LTV limit include interest on a bullet gold loan?

Yes. For bullet loans, where you pay principal and interest together at the end, the interest due at maturity is counted within the LTV limit, so the loan you can take today is a little lower. This calculator adjusts for that.

How is 18-carat gold valued for a gold loan?

Lenders value lower-purity gold in proportion to its gold content against the 22-carat benchmark, so 18-carat jewellery is valued at about 18/22 of the 22-carat rate. Stones and other non-gold parts are not counted.

Is the agricultural gold loan calculation different?

The LTV limits are the same. What can differ is the interest rate: short-term crop loans may qualify for the government's interest subvention if your lender offers it and you repay on time, which reduces the effective rate. Enter the rate your lender quotes.

What is the maximum tenure for a bullet gold loan?

RBI caps bullet repayment gold loans at 12 months. EMI gold loans can run longer depending on the lender's policy.
