IPO Apps for GMP and Allotment Status: What They Can't Tell You
What an IPO GMP or allotment status app can show, where its data comes from, what it can't do, and a safety checklist for choosing an IPO tracker app.

In this article (7 sections)
An IPO app can put the upcoming IPO calendar, price band, lot size, live subscription figures and allotment links in one place, which saves time. What it cannot do is make GMP (grey market premium) official, predict your listing gain, or improve your chance of allotment. Treat an IPO tracker app as a convenient window onto official NSE, BSE and registrar data, plus some unofficial chatter, and check anything important at the source.
What a typical IPO app shows, and where it comes from
Most IPO information apps pull together the same handful of data points. The useful question is which of them are official and which are not.
| What the app shows | Original source | Official? |
|---|---|---|
| Upcoming and open IPOs, dates | Issue advertisements, RHP, NSE and BSE issue pages | Yes |
| Price band and lot size | Red herring prospectus (RHP) and price band advertisement | Yes |
| Subscription status (QIB, NII, retail, times subscribed) | NSE and BSE bid data during the issue | Yes, if copied correctly |
| Registrar name, allotment and listing dates | RHP and exchange notices | Yes |
| Allotment status | Registrar's allotment page, BSE and NSE status pages | Yes, if fetched from them |
| GMP, kostak, subject-to-sauda rates | Grey market dealers, collected by websites | No |
| Ratings, "apply" or "avoid" tags, expected gain | The app's own opinion | No |
So an IPO app is mostly a re-display of official data plus one unofficial number. If the app shows a different price band, lot size or subscription figure from the exchange page, the exchange page wins.
You can see the same calendar, subscription and listing information on our live IPO dashboard, and our guide on how to track upcoming IPOs lists the official places to watch.
GMP in apps: why the number is unreliable
Many people search for an "IPO GMP today app" or the "best app for IPO GMP". No such app can be authoritative, because GMP comes from the grey market: informal, unrecorded deals in shares that do not exist yet. These trades happen outside the stock exchanges and outside SEBI's framework. SEBI does not publish, check or endorse GMP, and grey market deals cannot be enforced if a dealer does not pay. Our explainer on what IPO GMP is covers this in detail.
When an app shows GMP, keep in mind:
- Different apps show different GMPs for the same issue on the same day. None of them is "correct".
- GMP moves fast in the days between closing and listing, following market mood and final subscription data.
- It is easiest to inflate in thin markets, which is why GMP is especially shaky for SME IPOs.
- It says nothing about the business. Earnings, debt and valuation are in the RHP; see how to read the IPO offer document.
Worked example: what a GMP headline really means (illustrative)
An app shows an issue with a price band of ₹270 to ₹285, a lot of 52 shares and a GMP of ₹40. It headlines "expected gain ₹2,080 per lot" (52 × ₹40).
Now look at the official numbers. Suppose the retail portion has room for 2,00,000 minimum lots and 80,00,000 valid retail applications come in. Because SEBI rules require retail allotment of one minimum lot to as many applicants as possible by lottery, the rough chance of any one application getting a lot is:
| Item | Calculation | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Chance of allotment | 2,00,000 ÷ 80,00,000 | 2.5% |
| Headline gain per lot (if GMP holds) | 52 × ₹40 | ₹2,080 |
| Rough expected gain per application | 2.5% × ₹2,080 | ₹52 |
| If the stock opens at ₹290 instead | 52 × (₹290 − ₹285) | ₹260 per lot |
| If the stock opens at ₹270 | 52 × (₹270 − ₹285) | −₹780 per lot |
The app's ₹2,080 figure assumes both an allotment (unlikely in a popular issue) and a GMP that holds until listing (not guaranteed). The numbers here are illustrative. If you do hold a listed IPO, measure your actual result over time with our CAGR calculator.
Allotment status: the app is only a messenger
Allotment is decided by the registrar to the issue, which runs the lottery or proportionate allotment approved by the stock exchange. The official places to check are:
- The registrar's IPO allotment page (the registrar is named in the RHP; our list of IPO registrars has the common ones).
- BSE's and NSE's IPO application status pages.
- Your bank and depository: an unblock or debit SMS, and a credit in your demat account.
An "IPO allotment status app" can only fetch the result from one of these or open the page for you. It cannot show the result earlier than the registrar publishes it, and if the app and the registrar disagree, trust the registrar. Our step-by-step guide on how to check IPO allotment status walks through each site.
The T+3 timeline
Under SEBI's circular of 9 August 2023, mandatory for public issues opening on or after 1 December 2023, shares list on T+3, where T is the issue closing day. As of October 2026, the usual sequence is:
| Day | What happens |
|---|---|
| T | Issue closes; UPI mandates must be approved by the cut-off time |
| T+1 | Basis of allotment usually finalised |
| T+2 | Allotted shares credited to demat; unsuccessful bids unblocked |
| T+3 | Shares listed and trading begins |
These are working days. Check the specific dates in the RHP or on SEBI's and the exchanges' websites, because holidays shift them.
What an IPO app cannot do
- It cannot place your bid unless it is your broker's app. You apply through your broker's app or website using a UPI mandate, or through your bank's ASBA option in net banking. The money stays blocked in your own account. See how to apply for an IPO online.
- It cannot raise your allotment chances. Nothing beyond the rules (one application per PAN, bidding at cut-off, any eligible shareholder quota) affects the lottery.
- It cannot guarantee a listing price or gain.
- It cannot replace the RHP for judging whether an issue is worth applying to.
For SME IPOs, an "SME IPO app" is especially limited. Since SEBI's March 2025 changes, the minimum SME IPO application is two lots and must be above ₹2 lakh, trading is thin and GMP is easiest to manipulate. Read SME IPO vs mainboard IPO before applying to one.
Checklist: judging any IPO tracker app
| Check | Good sign | Red flag |
|---|---|---|
| Permissions | Internet only; maybe notifications | SMS, contacts, call logs, location, accessibility service, "display over other apps" |
| Login | Works without login for information | Asks for your broker or demat login, or bank net banking credentials |
| Sensitive data | Never asks for PIN, OTP or passwords | Asks for UPI PIN, OTP, bank or demat password "to check allotment" |
| Allotment check | Opens the registrar or exchange page, or clearly says where data comes from | Claims its "own" allotment data or early results |
| Data storage | Watchlists stored on your phone; Data safety section says what goes to its servers | Vague or missing Data safety section; collects PAN without saying why |
| GMP labelling | Marks GMP as unofficial and unverified | Calls GMP "confirmed", "assured" or "guaranteed listing gain" |
| Developer details | Play Store listing shows a developer name, email, website and address | No contact details, copied name or logo |
| Privacy policy | Specific, readable, linked from the listing | Missing, generic or broken link |
An information app has no reason to read your SMS or contacts. If it does, uninstall it.
Red flags: when an "IPO app" is a scam
- Guaranteed allotment or a "special quota" for a fee. Allotment is by lottery or proportionate rules; no one can sell you a seat in it.
- Requests for your demat or broker login, UPI PIN or OTP, or a request to install a screen-sharing app.
- "GMP tips" groups on messaging apps that push paid membership, "sure-shot listing gains", or offer to buy your IPO application for a kostak rate.
- Fake "institutional" or "pre-IPO" accounts that ask you to deposit money into a bank account or UPI ID to get shares. Real IPO money is only ever blocked in your own account.
If you have shared details or paid money, call the 1930 cyber fraud helpline or report at cybercrime.gov.in, tell your broker and bank, and use SEBI SCORES for complaints against a registered intermediary. Our guide on how to spot investment scams explains the reporting steps.

Key takeaways
- IPO apps mostly repackage official data: price band, lot size, dates and subscription from the RHP, NSE and BSE.
- GMP shown in any app is unofficial grey market data, outside SEBI's framework, and not a predictor of listing price.
- Allotment status is official only on the registrar's page and BSE and NSE status pages; an app can only fetch or link them.
- Under T+3, shares list on the third working day after closing; confirm dates in the RHP.
- Apply only through your broker (UPI) or your bank's ASBA, never through an information app.
- Avoid any app or group that promises allotment, asks for broker login, PIN or OTP, or sells GMP tips.
Frequently asked questions
Which app is best for IPO GMP?
No app has an official GMP, because GMP comes from unregulated grey market dealers and SEBI does not publish it. Any app can only repeat quotes it has collected, so judge an app by how clearly it labels GMP as unofficial, how quickly it shows official subscription data from NSE and BSE, and how few permissions it asks for.
Can an IPO app tell me if I got an allotment?
Only by fetching or linking to the result published by the issue's registrar or by BSE and NSE. The registrar's allotment page is the official source. An app cannot change, speed up or improve your allotment.
Can I apply for an IPO through a GMP or tracker app?
Not through an information-only app. You apply through your broker's app or website using UPI, or through your bank's ASBA facility in net banking. The bid is placed on the exchange and the money stays blocked in your own bank account until allotment.
Is it safe to enter my PAN in an IPO allotment app?
Your PAN is enough to check allotment on the registrar or exchange site, so prefer an app that opens those official pages. Never give an app your demat or broker login, UPI PIN, OTP or bank password; no allotment check needs them.
When does an IPO list after closing?
Under SEBI's T+3 timeline, mandatory for public issues opening on or after 1 December 2023, shares list on the third working day after the issue closes. Allotment is usually finalised by T+1 or T+2, and unsuccessful bids should be unblocked by T+2.
