JanSamarth Portal: Govt Loan Schemes and Eligibility Check
JanSamarth portal guide for 2026: the 16 government loan schemes on jansamarth.in, how to check eligibility, apply, track status, and fix common problems.

In this article
The JanSamarth portal (jansamarth.in) is the Government of India's single website for applying for loans under credit-linked central schemes such as Mudra, PMEGP, PM SVANidhi and Kisan Credit Card. You answer a few questions, the portal shows which schemes you are eligible for, gives a digital in-principle approval, and sends your application to the bank branch you choose. It is free to use. Everything below is as of October 2026, based on the government's June 2026 update on the portal.
Who JanSamarth is for
JanSamarth suits anyone looking for a loan linked to a government scheme:
- Small business owners and first-time entrepreneurs (Mudra, PMEGP, startup loans, micro-enterprise credit card)
- Street vendors (PM SVANidhi)
- Farmers, fishers and agri-entrepreneurs (Kisan Credit Card, KCC Fisheries, Agriculture Infrastructure Fund, Agri Clinics and Agri Business Centres)
- Households wanting a home loan under the urban housing scheme or financing for rooftop solar
- Self-help groups under the national rural livelihoods mission
- Existing business borrowers needing extra working capital under the emergency credit line scheme
It is not for ordinary personal loans, credit cards or car loans; those go directly to banks.
Schemes available on JanSamarth (June 2026 list)
The government's June 2026 update lists 16 schemes in 8 loan categories:
| Loan category | Schemes |
|---|---|
| Credit guarantee coverage | Emergency Credit Line Guarantee Scheme 5.0 (ECLGS) |
| e-NWR financing | e-Kisan Upaj Nidhi (loans against electronic warehouse receipts) |
| Home loan | Home loans for EWS, LIG and MIG in urban areas |
| Agri loan – Kisan Credit Card | Kisan Credit Card; KCC – Fisheries |
| Renewable energy | Rooftop solar installation financing |
| Agri infrastructure loan | Agri Clinics and Agri Business Centres (ACABC); Agriculture Infrastructure Fund (AIF) |
| Business activity loan | PMEGP; Weaver Mudra; PM Mudra Yojana; PM SVANidhi; NAMASTE; Loan for Startups (START); Credit Card for Micro Enterprises |
| Livelihood loan | DAY-National Rural Livelihoods Mission |
Some numbers from the same update: 269 lending institutions are on the portal (12 public sector banks, 20 private banks, 19 NBFCs, 28 regional rural banks, 7 small finance banks, 180 district central co-operative banks and others), and about 54.10 lakh applications worth ₹3,00,951 crore had been processed by 1 June 2026. The portal works in 8 languages, including Hindi and Gujarati.
Older guides describe four categories (education, agriculture, business and livelihood) and 13 schemes. That list is out of date: education loan schemes are now handled on the PM-Vidyalaxmi portal; see our PM Vidyalaxmi education loan guide.
Each scheme keeps its own rules, and a scheme listed on the portal can still close or pause. For example, PMEGP's 2021-26 approval ended on 31 March 2026 and its continuation has to be confirmed; see our PMEGP loan subsidy guide.
How JanSamarth checks eligibility
The portal does three things before a bank sees your file:
- Matches you to schemes. You pick a loan category and answer questions about your activity, location, income or business, and the loan amount.
- Pulls data with your consent. It connects with Aadhaar (UIDAI), PAN and income-tax data, GST, Udyam, credit bureaus and other government databases to auto-fill and verify details.
- Gives an in-principle decision. If you clear the checks, it shows eligible lenders and a digital in-principle approval and forwards the application with documents to your chosen branch.
Documents required
Keep these ready as scans or photos:
| Applicant | Typical documents |
|---|---|
| Everyone | Aadhaar linked to mobile, PAN, bank account details, photograph |
| Business loans | Udyam registration, project report or business plan, quotations for machinery, GST return or ITR if available, address proof of business premises |
| Farmers | Land records, crop details, existing KCC details if any |
| Street vendors | Certificate of vending or letter of recommendation from the urban local body |
| Home loan | Income proof, property documents, proof of not owning a pucca house where the scheme requires it |
| Startups | DPIIT recognition and financial statements |
Each scheme's page on the portal lists the exact documents. For business loans, Udyam registration speeds things up; see Udyam registration and MSME loan benefits.
How to apply on JanSamarth, step by step
- Go to jansamarth.in (type it yourself; do not click links in messages) or install the official app from the app store.
- Register with your mobile number and OTP. Do not share this OTP with anyone who calls you.
- Choose a loan category, such as business activity loan, and click "check eligibility".
- Answer the questions about yourself and the loan.
- Pick a scheme and lender from the eligible list, and choose the branch closest to you.
- Give consent for Aadhaar, PAN and other data checks, and upload documents.
- Get the in-principle approval and submit. The application reaches the branch digitally.
- Respond to the bank. The branch may call, visit your premises or ask for extra documents before final sanction.
A worked example: a tailor in a town wants ₹2 lakh to buy two machines and fabric stock. On JanSamarth she chooses "business activity loan", answers the questions and is shown PM Mudra Yojana (Kishore, above ₹50,000 to ₹5 lakh). She picks her own bank's branch, uploads Aadhaar, PAN, Udyam certificate and a machine quotation, and receives an in-principle approval. The branch verifies the shop and sanctions the loan. At an illustrative 10% rate over 3 years, her EMI would be about ₹6,453; check yours on the EMI calculator. The full Mudra process is in how to apply for a Mudra loan for a new business.
Tracking your application
- Log in and open your applications to see the stage: submitted, in-principle approved, with branch, sanctioned, disbursed or rejected.
- The portal sends updates at each stage, so keep your registered mobile number active.
- If the branch has not acted for a long time, visit with your application reference number and ask who is handling it.
Common problems and fixes
| Problem | Likely cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| OTP not received | Network delay or wrong number | Wait a minute and retry; make sure the number is linked to Aadhaar for Aadhaar checks |
| "Not eligible" for a scheme | Activity, location, age or income does not meet scheme rules | Check other categories; the portal may show another scheme you qualify for |
| PAN or Aadhaar mismatch | Name or date of birth differs | Correct the record with UIDAI or the income-tax portal first |
| Application stuck at branch | Branch workload or missing documents | Visit the branch with the reference number; escalate to the bank's grievance officer |
| Rejected after in-principle approval | Bank's own appraisal, credit history or viability | Ask for the reason in writing; fix the issue and reapply |
| Someone asks for a fee to "approve" the loan | Fraud | Do not pay; report it |
Credit history matters for every scheme. A low score or recent default can lead to rejection even when you are scheme-eligible; read how to check your CIBIL score free before applying.
How to complain
- Bank decision or delay: complain to the branch, then the bank's grievance redressal officer. If unresolved in 30 days, file a free complaint at cms.rbi.org.in with the RBI Ombudsman.
- Scheme subsidy or eligibility issues: contact the implementing agency for that scheme, such as the District Industries Centre or KVIC for PMEGP, or your agriculture office for farm schemes.
- Government department grievance: you can file on pgportal.gov.in (CPGRAMS).
- Portal technical issues: use the contact details shown on jansamarth.in itself. Do not call numbers found on search ads or social media; fake helplines are common.
- Fraud: report fake JanSamarth websites, apps or agents at cybercrime.gov.in or call 1930.
