The Mukhyamantri Yuva Swavalamban Yojana (MYSY) is the Gujarat government's scholarship that pays 50% of tuition fees, up to ₹2 lakh a year for medical courses, plus hostel and book aid, to students with 80 percentile or more and family income up to ₹6 lakh. For 2026-27, the official portal mysy.gujarat.gov.in is open, and the last date for fresh, renewal and delayed applications is 30 October 2026 (6 pm), with document verification at a help centre by 5 November 2026.

All rules below are from the Education Department's MYSY portal, its 2026-27 instructions and the official FAQ, as of October 2026. The scheme is active and run by the Knowledge Consortium of Gujarat (KCG).

Eligibility for fresh applicants

  • Degree courses: 80 percentile or more in Class 12 (science or general stream) and admission to the first year of an eligible degree course.
  • Diploma courses: 80 percentile or more in Class 10 and admission to the first year of an eligible diploma.
  • Diploma-to-degree (D2D): 65% or more in the diploma exam and admission to the first or second year of a degree course.
  • MBBS: admission on the basis of NEET; the 80 percentile rule applies to all other medical and paramedical courses.
  • Family income: up to ₹6 lakh a year.
  • Not for postgraduate courses. In five-year integrated courses, aid is given for the first three years only.

The official FAQ also says a student who passed Class 10, 12 or diploma in Gujarat and meets the norms can get MYSY even when studying in another state; confirm your course is in the department-wise course list on the portal before you apply.

If you missed applying in the first year, you can apply in a later year as a "Delayed" application.

How much you get

Tuition fee aid

Course Cap per year (aid = 50% of fee or cap, whichever is lower)
Medical and dental ₹2,00,000
Engineering/technology, pharmacy, architecture, agriculture, Ayurveda, homoeopathy, nursing, physiotherapy, paramedical, veterinary ₹50,000
Diploma ₹25,000
BA, BCom, BSc, BBA, BCA ₹10,000

Hostel and food aid

₹1,200 a month for 10 months (₹12,000 a year) for students studying outside their home taluka who could not get a seat in a government hostel. Students sharing a rented house also qualify if they submit the rent agreement.

Book and instrument aid (once per course)

Course Aid
Medical and dental ₹10,000
Engineering, technology, pharmacy, architecture, agriculture, Ayurveda, homoeopathy, nursing, physiotherapy, paramedical, veterinary, interior design, planning, hotel management ₹5,000
Diploma ₹3,000

Students of general higher education courses (BA, BCom, BSc and similar) do not get book aid.

Worked example: MYSY for an engineering student

Meet, from a family earning ₹4.8 lakh a year, scores 92 percentile in Class 12 and joins a self-financed B.E. college in another taluka. The annual tuition fee is ₹1,20,000 and he rents a room with friends.

Item Calculation Amount
Tuition aid 50% × ₹1,20,000 = ₹60,000, capped at ₹50,000 ₹50,000
Hostel aid ₹1,200 × 10 months ₹12,000
Book/instrument aid One-time, engineering ₹5,000
First-year total ₹67,000

If the fee stays the same and he meets renewal rules every year, the four-year total is ₹50,000 × 4 + ₹12,000 × 4 + ₹5,000 = ₹2,53,000.

Compare a BCom student paying ₹15,000 a year: 50% is ₹7,500, which is below the ₹10,000 cap, so tuition aid is ₹7,500. For an MBBS student paying ₹5,50,000, 50% is ₹2,75,000, so the ₹2,00,000 cap applies.

Scholarship or loan subsidy? Central rules say a student availing a state scholarship cannot also take interest subvention under CSIS or PM Vidyalaxmi on an education loan. If you also need a loan, compare the MYSY amount with the subsidy you would give up; see our CSIS interest subsidy guide and the PM Vidyalaxmi education loan before deciding. Gujarat also runs its own interest subsidy scheme on education loans, linked from the MYSY portal.

Documents for a fresh application (2026-27)

  1. Student's Aadhaar card (self-attested copy)
  2. Class 10 or 12 marksheet
  3. Admission letter from the admission committee
  4. All tuition fee receipts
  5. Ration card
  6. Self-declaration (original, in the portal format)
  7. Parents' income certificate from the Talati-cum-Mantri, Mamlatdar or Taluka Development Officer (for income above ₹5 lakh, only Mamlatdar or TDO certificates are accepted)
  8. Principal's certificate on the institution's letterhead (original)
  9. Hostel admission and mess receipts, or rent agreement
  10. First page of savings passbook or cancelled cheque showing account number and IFSC

Income certificate validity: a certificate is valid for three financial years including the year of issue. One issued in 2023-24 expired on 31 March 2026, so 2026-27 applicants with such a certificate must get a new one by the last date of application or 31 March 2027, whichever is earlier.

For renewal you need Aadhaar, the institution head's renewal certificate, the previous year's marksheets, fee receipts for the current year, ration card, hostel proof and passbook.

How to apply, step by step

  1. Go to mysy.gujarat.gov.in and read the 2026-27 instructions on the notice board.
  2. Fresh or delayed applicants: click Student Registration. Renewal: use Student Login (login is by OTP only).
  3. Fill the form and choose the correct department for your course from the department-wise course list.
  4. Upload all documents and submit before 30 October 2026, 6 pm.
  5. Visit your help centre within 7 days for document verification. If you do not, the online application is cancelled automatically. There are about 380 help centres, usually at your college or university.
  6. Complete Aadhaar e-KYC if asked; the portal lists e-Gram centres for this.
  7. Seed Aadhaar with your bank account. Aid is paid by DBT and will not be credited to an unlinked account. You can check seeding at myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in.
  8. Track status under Student Status on the portal; you also get SMS updates at each stage. Keep the same mobile number for the whole course.

The application is free. Do not pay cyber cafes or agents who promise "guaranteed MYSY approval", and use only the gujarat.gov.in portal address.

Common reasons MYSY applications are rejected

  • Missing the 7-day verification window at the help centre.
  • Expired or wrong income certificate, for example one issued by the Talati when income is above ₹5 lakh.
  • Percentile below 80, or using percentage instead of percentile.
  • Wrong department or course selected on the portal.
  • Renewal criteria not met: under 50% marks or under 75% attendance.
  • Aadhaar not seeded with the bank account, so payment fails.
  • Medical/AYUSH or D2D students applying on the wrong link before their separate window opens.

How to complain or get help

  1. Call the MYSY helpline 079-26566000 or 7043333181 (10:30 am to 6 pm), or email mysy-kcg[at]gujgov[dot]edu[dot]in.
  2. Visit the KCG office in person before the last date if there is a document or portal problem; the department says representations after the last date will not be considered.
  3. Upload pending documents under Student Status within 7 days and get them verified at the help centre.
  4. For unresolved issues, write to the KCG office or the Education Department, Gujarat, quoting your application number.
