To set up a V380 camera, install the V380 Pro app, create an account, power on the camera and follow its voice prompt: "Access-Point established" means you add it with the AP hotspot method, while "Waiting for WiFi smartlink configuration" means you use smart link. The camera only joins 2.4 GHz WiFi, and the last step is setting a device password. The whole process usually takes 5-10 minutes when the phone and camera are close to the router.

Menu names can differ slightly by app version and camera model, so treat the labels below as a guide and follow the on-screen prompts.

Before you start: a 2-minute checklist

Check Why it matters
Your router has a 2.4 GHz network turned on V380 cameras cannot join 5 GHz WiFi
WiFi name is visible (not hidden) and uses normal letters Hidden networks are not supported, per the V380 FAQ
You know the exact WiFi password A wrong password is the most common reason setup fails
Camera is within a few metres of the router Setup is more reliable with a strong signal; you can move it later
Phone has location (and on iPhone, Local Network) permission for the app Needed for the app to see WiFi names and the camera hotspot
microSD card ready (optional) Needed only if you want recordings on the camera

If your router shows one combined network name for both bands and setup keeps failing, see our troubleshooting notes further below.

Step 1: Install the right app and create an account

Install V380 Pro from the Google Play Store (package com.macrovideo.v380pro) or the Apple App Store. On the App Store the developer is listed as Macro-video Technologies. There is also an older app simply called "V380"; the V380 website says its Windows software works with both, but most new cameras ship with V380 Pro instructions, so use V380 Pro unless your manual says otherwise.

Open the app, allow the permissions it asks for (location and notifications are common), and register with your email or mobile number. You will get a verification code. Choose an account password that you do not use anywhere else, especially not your email or banking password.

Step 2: Power on the camera and listen

Plug the camera into its adapter. Most V380 models have no battery and must stay on mains power. After about a minute the camera speaks one of two prompts:

  • "Access-Point established" – the camera has created its own WiFi hotspot, named MV followed by its ID. Use the AP hotspot method.
  • "Waiting for WiFi smartlink configuration" – use the smart link method.

If you hear nothing, or the camera was used before, reset it (hold the reset button for about 6-7 seconds on most indoor models) and wait for the prompt again. Many models also show a solid red light while waiting for setup, but light colours vary, so check your camera's manual.

Step 3: Add the camera to the app

Tap the + icon in the app. Many recent cameras have a QR code on the body; you can scan it and the app suggests the right method. If there is no QR code, choose the option for a WiFi smart camera.

Method A: AP hotspot (most reliable)

  1. Choose the AP hotspot / access point option.
  2. Android: the app lists the camera's MV hotspot; tap it. iPhone: go to phone Settings > WiFi, join the MV hotspot, wait for the WiFi icon, then return to the app.
  3. The phone shows "no internet" while on the hotspot. That is normal.
  4. Select your home 2.4 GHz network, type the password carefully and tap Confirm.
  5. Wait for the camera to say "WiFi connected". The camera then appears in the device list.
  1. Keep the phone connected to your home 2.4 GHz WiFi.
  2. Choose the smart link option, enter the WiFi password (and the camera ID if asked) and tap Next.
  3. Hold the phone near the camera and wait for "WiFi connected".

If smart link fails twice, reset the camera and use AP hotspot instead; the V380 FAQ itself recommends hotspot mode for difficult routers.

Method C: Camera already on your WiFi

If the camera says "WiFi connected" but the app never showed "completed", it is already online. Add it with the device ID option (an 8-digit number on the camera label), or, if the phone is on the same WiFi, pull down the device list to refresh and let the app find it on the local network.

Step 4: Name the camera and set a device password

Give the camera a clear name such as "Main door" or "Shop counter". Then open the camera; the app prompts you to set a device password. This is separate from your app account password. On first setup the device password is empty, and the V380 Pro app requires you to set one before viewing.

Use at least 8 characters with letters and numbers, and write it down somewhere safe. If you forget it later, the fix is a factory reset and a fresh setup.

Step 5: Recording, alerts and time

  • Memory card: insert a microSD card with the camera powered off, then format it from the camera's settings in the app. The V380 FAQ says many models support up to 64 GB, while some newer manuals recommend 32-128 GB Class 10 cards, so check your model.
  • Recording mode: choose continuous (all-day) recording, motion (alarm) recording, or both.
  • Motion alerts: turn on alarm or motion detection if you want notifications. Expect some false alerts from pets, curtains or headlights at first, and adjust the detection area.
  • Time: the camera takes its clock from the internet. If recordings show a 1970 date, the camera was offline; opening live view once usually corrects it.

Step 6: Share with family the right way

According to the V380 FAQ, one account can be logged in on only one device at a time; logging in on a second phone pushes the first one out. So instead of giving your login to everyone:

  1. Ask each family member to install V380 Pro and create their own account.
  2. Open the camera in your app and tap Share.
  3. Follow the prompts to add the other account (some versions use a QR code).

Remove access when someone no longer needs it, for example a former tenant or employee.

What it costs to run: a worked example

The camera itself is a one-time purchase; indoor WiFi cameras of this type typically sell in the low thousands of rupees, outdoor models for more. The running costs are what people forget.

Illustrative example for one 2 MP camera recording 24x7 to a card:

Item Assumption Cost
Electricity 5 W x 24 h = 120 Wh/day = 3.6 units/month at ₹8 per unit about ₹29/month
Storage on card V380 FAQ: a 2 MP H.265 camera writes about 1-3 GB per day a 64 GB card holds roughly 21-64 days
Cloud plan (optional) Monthly or yearly subscription; prices shown in the app vary by region recurring, typically a few hundred rupees a month

At 3 GB per day, 64 / 3 = about 21 days of footage before the card overwrites the oldest files. Many cameras draw less than 5 W, so your bill may be lower. If you subscribe to cloud storage, add it to your list of recurring subscriptions so it does not renew unnoticed.

Privacy and safety basics

  • Change the default or empty device password at setup, and never reuse your banking or email password for the app.
  • Keep the app and camera firmware updated (check for a firmware update option in the camera's settings).
  • Point cameras at your own property only. Avoid neighbours' windows, shared bathrooms or any place where people expect privacy.
  • Tell household staff, tenants or guests that a camera is recording. Audio recording is more sensitive than video.
  • Download apps only from the official stores, and be careful with "customer care" numbers found online; if someone asks for an OTP or remote-access app, it is likely a scam. If you lose money, call 1930 or report on cybercrime.gov.in.

A camera can help with security, but it does not replace insurance; see how home contents insurance covers theft.

Key takeaways

  • Install V380 Pro, register, then listen to the camera: "Access-Point established" means AP hotspot setup, "smartlink" means smart link.
  • Use a visible 2.4 GHz WiFi network and set up near the router.
  • Always set a strong device password, separate from your account password.
  • Share the camera to family members' own accounts; one login works on one phone at a time.
  • Budget for running costs: electricity is small, but a cloud plan is a recurring subscription.

Frequently asked questions

How do I connect a V380 camera to my mobile for the first time?

Install the V380 Pro app, create an account, power on the camera and wait for its voice prompt. If it says Access-Point established, use the AP hotspot method in the app; if it says it is waiting for WiFi smartlink configuration, use the smart link method. Finish by setting a device password.

Does a V380 camera work on 5 GHz WiFi?

No. The V380 website says the camera's WiFi module supports only 2.4 GHz. A dual-band router is fine as long as its 2.4 GHz network is switched on and you select that network during setup.

Can two family members watch the same V380 camera?

Yes. Use the Share option on the camera in the app so each family member views it from their own account. One V380 account can be logged in on only one phone at a time, so sharing the same login usually logs the other person out.

Do I need a memory card or cloud plan for a V380 camera?

Live viewing works without either. To record, you need a microSD card in the camera or a paid cloud storage plan. A card is a one-time cost, while cloud storage is a recurring monthly or yearly subscription.

Is it legal to put a WiFi camera at home in India?

Cameras covering your own home are common, but recording other people raises privacy issues. Point cameras only at your own space, inform household staff or tenants, and avoid areas like bathrooms or a neighbour's home. For specific legal questions, consult a lawyer.
