PM Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) pays eligible land-holding farmer families ₹6,000 a year in three instalments of ₹2,000, straight into their Aadhaar-seeded bank account. To keep getting it you must have completed eKYC, have your land records verified and your bank account linked to Aadhaar. As of October 2026 the scheme is active: the 23rd instalment was released on 20 June 2026, and the official PM-KISAN handle announced on 23 October 2026 that the 24th instalment is set for 30 October 2026.

How PM-KISAN works

  • It is a Central Sector scheme, fully funded by the Government of India, operational since 1 December 2018.
  • A family means husband, wife and minor children. The benefit is per family, not per person.
  • State governments identify eligible families and verify land records; the money is sent by direct benefit transfer.
  • Instalments follow three four-month periods each year: April-July, August-November and December-March.
  • The official portal reported about 9.44 crore farmers benefited in the April-July 2026-27 period.

PM-KISAN is income support, not credit; for cheaper crop loans, see how the interest subvention scheme on KCC loans works.

Who is eligible and who is excluded

All land-holding farmer families are eligible, unless they fall in an exclusion category. Excluded:

Exclusion Detail
Institutional landholders Land held by trusts, companies, institutions
Constitutional posts Families with a present or former constitutional post holder, minister, MP, MLA, MLC, mayor or district panchayat chairperson
Government employees Serving or retired central/state government, PSU, autonomous body and local body employees (Group D, Class IV and MTS are not excluded)
Pensioners Retired pensioners with monthly pension of ₹10,000 or more (Group D/Class IV/MTS not excluded)
Income taxpayers Anyone who paid income tax in the last assessment year
Professionals Doctors, engineers, lawyers, CAs and architects registered with professional bodies and practising

Land cut-off date: the scheme uses 1 February 2019 as the cut-off for landholding. Land acquired after that date generally does not make a new family eligible, except where land passes by inheritance after the owner's death. In 2026 the department said it had withheld payments in suspected cases such as land acquired after 1 February 2019 and more than one family member getting benefits (for example both husband and wife), pending physical verification.

Anyone who takes the benefit by a false declaration has to refund it and can face legal action, and the portal has an online refund option for ineligible beneficiaries.

Worked example: what a family receives

Period Calculation Amount
One instalment ₹2,000
One year 3 × ₹2,000 ₹6,000
From the first to the 24th instalment 24 × ₹2,000 ₹48,000

A family that got every instalment since the scheme began would have received ₹48,000 by the 24th instalment. If a husband and wife were both registered separately, only one would be valid: the family limit is still ₹6,000 a year, and the extra payments would be recoverable.

How to do PM-KISAN eKYC

eKYC is mandatory. You can choose any one method:

  1. OTP-based eKYC on the portal: go to pmkisan.gov.in, open eKYC in the Farmers Corner, enter Aadhaar and verify the OTP sent to your Aadhaar-linked mobile.
  2. Face authentication on the PM-KISAN mobile app: useful if your mobile is not linked with Aadhaar.
  3. Biometric eKYC at a Common Service Centre (CSC): carry your Aadhaar card and registered mobile.

Also make sure your bank account is Aadhaar-seeded and NPCI-mapped for DBT; your bank branch or India Post Payments Bank can do this. Keep your bank KYC updated too; see our guide on bank KYC update.

Farmer ID: under the AgriStack farmer registry, many states now require a Farmer ID for new registrations and are linking it to PM-KISAN. Ask your patwari/talati or agriculture office whether your state requires it.

How to check PM-KISAN beneficiary status

  1. Open pmkisan.gov.in and click Know Your Status under Farmers Corner.
  2. Enter your registration number. If you do not know it, use the Know your registration number link with your mobile or Aadhaar number.
  3. Enter the captcha and the OTP sent to your registered mobile.
  4. Check four items: eKYC status, land seeding, Aadhaar-bank seeding and the instalment history with payment dates.

You can also check the village-wise Beneficiary List on the portal, or ask the Kisan eMitra chatbot on the portal and app.

How to register as a new farmer

  1. Choose New Farmer Registration on the portal (or visit a CSC).
  2. Select rural or urban farmer, enter Aadhaar, mobile and state.
  3. Fill in name exactly as in Aadhaar, bank details and land details (survey/khasra number).
  4. Upload land documents and submit. The state verifies your land records before approval.
  5. Track the request under Status of Self Registered Farmer.

Instalment not received: common reasons and fixes

For a fuller walkthrough, see PM-KISAN payment pending: how to fix it.

  • eKYC pending: complete it by OTP, face authentication or at a CSC.
  • Land seeding "No": contact your patwari, talati or block agriculture office to verify land records.
  • Aadhaar not seeded with bank / NPCI mapping missing: visit your bank branch.
  • Name mismatch between Aadhaar, bank and land records: correct it at the source and update details.
  • Case under verification: if flagged under exclusion checks, cooperate with the physical verification.
  • Payment failed at bank level: check if your account is dormant or closed; reactivate it.

Other services on the portal

The Farmers Corner on pmkisan.gov.in also lets you:

  • Update your mobile number linked to the PM-KISAN record.
  • Update missing information such as bank or Aadhaar details flagged by the system.
  • Request a state transfer if you have moved and hold land in another state.
  • Voluntarily surrender the benefit if you are no longer eligible, for example after becoming an income taxpayer, and use Online Refund to return amounts received while ineligible.

Doing this yourself avoids a later recovery notice, which is common when a family member starts paying income tax or retires with a pension above the limit.

How to complain

  1. Use the Helpdesk - Query Form in the Farmers Corner of pmkisan.gov.in; enter your registration, Aadhaar, account or mobile number and describe the problem.
  2. Contact the PM-KISAN nodal officer at the block, district or state level; the portal has a Search your Point of Contact option.
  3. The PM-KISAN helplines commonly published by the department include 155261 and 011-24300606, and the email pmkisan-ict@gov.in; check the portal's contact page for the current list.
  4. If still unresolved, file a grievance on CPGRAMS (pgportal.gov.in) addressed to the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare.

Fraud warning. PM-KISAN registration and status check are free on the official portal. Do not click "PM Kisan" links or APK files sent on WhatsApp or SMS, and never share OTPs. Scammers use fake eKYC links to empty bank accounts; see our guide to UPI scams and what to do. If money is lost, report it immediately on 1930 or cybercrime.gov.in.

Farmers who also need credit can look at the Kisan Credit Card loan (the portal has a KCC form link) or an agriculture gold loan.
