Under PM Surya Ghar, the subsidy is not paid when your panels go up. It is paid only after four things happen in order: the vendor uploads installation details, the DISCOM installs the net meter, the DISCOM inspects and commissions the plant on the portal, and you submit bank details to claim it. If your subsidy is pending, your portal login shows which of these steps is stuck, and that tells you whom to chase.

This guide covers, as of October 2026, what happens after installation, the usual timelines, what to check and how to complain. For the scheme basics, see our PM Surya Ghar subsidy and loan guide.

Who this applies to

  • Households that installed rooftop solar through a registered vendor under PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana.
  • Anyone whose portal shows "installation submitted", "inspection pending", "commissioned" or "subsidy pending" for weeks.
  • Borrowers whose loan account has not received the subsidy.

What happens after installation

Step Who acts What you see on the portal What to check
1. Installation details uploaded Vendor (or you) Installation details submitted Photos, DCR undertaking, module and inverter serial numbers are correct
2. Net meter application and installation DISCOM Net meter pending / installed Meter fee paid, meter actually fixed
3. Inspection DISCOM engineer Inspection pending / done Site visit done, any objections noted
4. Commissioning certificate DISCOM Commissioned, certificate downloadable Download and save it
5. Subsidy claim You Bank details submitted Name, account number, IFSC, cancelled cheque or passbook copy
6. Subsidy release MNRE through the portal Subsidy released / credited Bank or loan statement

Vendor guides commonly quote about 5 working days for inspection after the request, 7 to 30 days for the net meter depending on the DISCOM, and around 30 days for the subsidy after the claim. A Jharkhand DISCOM's procedure document states that the subsidy is released within 30 days of submitting the claim. These are not uniform national deadlines, so use them as a guide for when to start following up.

What assistance you should receive

As of October 2026, the central subsidy is ₹30,000 for 1 kW, ₹60,000 for 2 kW and ₹78,000 for 3 kW or larger (up to ₹85,800 in special category states and UTs). Some states pay an extra top-up separately. Check that the amount credited matches your system size; our guide to rooftop solar subsidy vs solar loan explains what is and is not repaid.

Documents to keep ready

  • Application number and electricity consumer number
  • Signed vendor agreement and tax invoice
  • DCR undertaking and module serial numbers
  • Net meter receipt and installation date
  • Commissioning certificate (download from the portal)
  • Bank passbook or cancelled cheque in the same name as the electricity connection
  • Loan account number and sanction letter, if you borrowed

Step-by-step: what to check if the subsidy is pending

  1. Log in and read the current stage. Note the date it last changed. Take a screenshot.
  2. If installation details are not submitted: ask the vendor in writing to upload them. This is the vendor's job, and delay here is common.
  3. If the net meter is pending: confirm you have paid the DISCOM's meter charges and ask the local subdivision office for the installation date.
  4. If inspection or commissioning is pending: contact the DISCOM's rooftop solar cell with your application number. Ask whether any objection was raised (wrong serial numbers, missing earthing, mismatch with the approved capacity).
  5. If commissioned but subsidy not claimed: submit bank details yourself. Many people miss this step.
  6. If claimed but not credited after about 30 days: check that the account is active, the name matches the electricity bill and Aadhaar, and the IFSC is correct. Then raise a portal grievance.
  7. If you have a solar loan: check the loan statement, not your savings account. Banks such as SBI require the subsidy to be credited to the loan.

Worked example: what a delay costs

Sunita has a 3 kW system financed by a solar loan at 6%. Her ₹78,000 subsidy reaches the loan account three months late. Interest on ₹78,000 for three months is 78,000 × 6% × 3 ÷ 12 = ₹1,170. The subsidy is not lost, but she pays about ₹1,170 extra interest, and her EMI stays higher until the credit is applied. Once it arrives, ask the bank whether it has cut the EMI or the tenure, and recheck the numbers in the EMI calculator.

Common problems and fixes

Problem Fix
Vendor has not uploaded installation details Written reminder with a deadline; portal grievance naming the vendor
Net meter not installed Pay meter charges if pending; follow up with the DISCOM subdivision office
Inspection objection Ask the vendor to fix it (it is covered by the vendor's obligations), then request re-inspection
Name mismatch across bill, bank and Aadhaar Correct the electricity connection or bank name first, then resubmit
Bank account inactive or wrong IFSC Reactivate the account or update details; see dormant bank account reactivation
Installed before feasibility approval, unregistered vendor, non-DCR modules, or earlier solar subsidy on the connection These usually make the claim ineligible; get the rejection reason in writing

How to complain

  1. Portal grievance: from your login on pmsuryaghar.gov.in. Note the grievance number.
  2. National helpline 15555.
  3. DISCOM: the rooftop solar cell or consumer grievance redressal forum, for net meter and inspection delays.
  4. Vendor: for upload delays and inspection objections, in writing.
  5. Bank: if the subsidy reached the bank but was not credited to your loan, complain to the bank and, after 30 days, to the RBI Integrated Ombudsman at cms.rbi.org.in.
  6. CPGRAMS (pgportal.gov.in): addressed to MNRE, if all the above fail.

Sample grievance text

Application No. [number], Consumer No. [number], [kW] system installed on [date] by [vendor]. Net meter installed on [date] and commissioning certificate issued on [date]. Bank details submitted on [date]. The subsidy of ₹[amount] has not been credited as of [date]. Please confirm the status and the reason for the delay.

Fake agents and websites

There is no fee to release a subsidy. Callers and look-alike websites that ask for payment or an OTP to "clear" your subsidy are frauds. Use only pmsuryaghar.gov.in. If you lose money, report it at cybercrime.gov.in or call 1930.

Key takeaways

  • The subsidy is released only after installation details, net meter, DISCOM inspection and commissioning, and your bank-detail claim, in that order.
  • Your portal stage tells you whom to chase: the vendor, the DISCOM or the bank.
  • A DISCOM procedure cites about 30 days from claim to release; net meter and inspection are where most delays happen.
  • Check the loan account, not savings, if you took a solar loan.
  • Complain via the portal, 15555, the DISCOM and CPGRAMS; never pay agents. All details are as of October 2026.

Frequently asked questions

How long does it take to get the PM Surya Ghar subsidy after installation?

There is no single national deadline that every DISCOM follows. A DISCOM procedure document says the subsidy is released within 30 days of submitting the subsidy claim with bank details, and most households report a few weeks after commissioning. The longest delays are usually at the net meter and inspection stage.

Why is my PM Surya Ghar subsidy still pending?

Common reasons are that the vendor has not uploaded installation details, the net meter is not installed, the DISCOM inspection or commissioning certificate is pending, bank details have not been submitted or do not match, or the modules' DCR details are incomplete.

What is the PM Surya Ghar helpline number?

The national helpline is 15555. You can also raise a grievance from your login on pmsuryaghar.gov.in and contact your DISCOM's rooftop solar cell for inspection or net meter delays.

Where is the subsidy credited if I took a solar loan?

If you financed the system with a bank such as SBI, the subsidy must be credited to the loan account, so check the loan statement rather than your savings account. Give the loan account details on the portal when you claim.

Can my solar subsidy be rejected after installation?

Yes, if the system was installed before feasibility approval, by an unregistered vendor, with non-DCR modules, or on a connection that already took a rooftop solar subsidy. Name mismatches can usually be corrected, but these eligibility problems usually cannot.

Do I need to pay someone to get the subsidy released?

No. The subsidy is released by the government directly to your bank or loan account. Anyone asking for a fee to clear your subsidy is not part of the scheme.
