myScheme (myscheme.gov.in) is the government's free search engine for welfare schemes: you answer a few questions about yourself (age, state, gender, category, income, occupation and so on) and it shows the central and state schemes that match, with eligibility, benefits, documents and the official place to apply. As of October 2026 it is active, run by the National e-Governance Division (NeGD) with support from MeitY and DARPG. It does not pay any benefit itself; it tells you which scheme to apply for and where.

If you are not sure whether you qualify for a pension, scholarship, maternity benefit or worker welfare scheme, start here. This guide shows how to use it well and what to do next.

Who it is for

Anyone in India can use myScheme, but it is most useful for:

  • families looking for welfare benefits (pensions, ration, housing, maternity, disability)
  • students looking for scholarships and fee reimbursement
  • farmers, workers, street vendors and small business owners looking for subsidies or loans
  • anyone helping a parent or relative find what they are entitled to

It was launched by the Prime Minister during Digital India Week 2022 in Gandhinagar. The number of schemes keeps growing as more states add theirs: NeGD said more than 400 state government schemes were featured after Uttarakhand joined in December 2025, alongside hundreds of central schemes. The portal shows its current count on the home page.

What it offers

Feature What it does
Eligibility check ("Find schemes for you") Asks questions about you and lists matching schemes
Search and filters Search by name or filter by state, ministry, category, beneficiary type and more
Scheme pages Details, benefits, eligibility, exclusions, application process, documents, FAQs and official sources
Languages English, Hindi and other languages
Sign-in (optional) Save your profile for future searches; not needed to browse

myScheme only helps you find schemes; for credit-linked government loans the actual application usually goes through the JanSamarth portal.

How to find schemes on myScheme: step by step

  1. Open myscheme.gov.in. Check the address carefully: it must be myscheme.gov.in. Lookalike sites copy the design.
  2. Click "Find schemes for you" (the eligibility checker).
  3. Answer the questions honestly: gender, age, state, urban or rural, caste category, disability, minority status, student status, BPL status, occupation and family income. More details give better matches.
  4. Review the matched list. Use filters to narrow by state or benefit type.
  5. Open each scheme page and read the eligibility and exclusions carefully. Many schemes are ruled out by one condition, such as being an income tax payer or an EPFO member.
  6. Note the documents listed, and the application process: online portal, CSC, bank branch, Anganwadi, gram panchayat or department office.
  7. Apply on the official portal shown in the "Sources and references" or application section. myScheme is the map; the department's portal or office is where you actually apply.

Worked example: one family, five schemes

Ramesh, 32, is a construction worker in Maharashtra. His wife Anita, 27, is expecting their first child. Family income is ₹1.8 lakh a year, and they hold an NFSA ration card. Entering these details on myScheme surfaces, among others:

Scheme What they pay What they get
PM Matru Vandana Yojana (Anita) Nothing ₹5,000 for the first child (₹3,000 + ₹2,000)
Construction worker welfare board (Ramesh) Small or no registration fee State board benefits: education, maternity, accident, pension
PMSBY (each) ₹20 a year ₹2 lakh accidental death cover
PMJJBY (each) ₹436 a year ₹2 lakh life cover
e-Shram registration (Ramesh) Nothing UAN card, link to other schemes

Insurance cost for both of them: (₹20 + ₹436) × 2 = ₹912 a year. For that, the family has ₹4 lakh life cover across the two of them (₹2 lakh each through PMJJBY) and another ₹2 lakh each for accidental death through PMSBY. PMMVY alone brings in ₹5,000. Without the search, many families never hear of half of these.

Documents to keep ready

myScheme itself needs no documents, but almost every scheme it shows will ask for some of these:

  • Aadhaar and a mobile number linked to it
  • A bank account in your own name, Aadhaar-seeded for DBT (a zero-balance Jan Dhan account works)
  • Income certificate, caste certificate, domicile certificate
  • Ration card, e-Shram card, disability or UDID certificate where relevant
  • Passport photos

Keeping these current saves weeks later. Many rejections across schemes come down to an expired income certificate or an unseeded bank account.

Tips to get better results

  • Search for each family member separately. A grandmother may match pension schemes, a daughter scholarships and a working parent insurance or worker schemes. One profile cannot show all of these.
  • Check both central and state schemes. States often run their own version of a central scheme with a top-up or wider eligibility, such as state pensions on top of the central old-age, widow and disability pensions.
  • Re-check after life events. Turning 18, 40 or 60, marriage, the birth of a child, a new job, a disability certificate or a change of state can open up new schemes.
  • Note deadlines. Scholarships and some subsidies have yearly application windows; pensions and insurance schemes are usually open all year.

Status tracking

myScheme does not track applications. After you apply, track the status on the scheme's own portal (for example pmmvy.wcd.gov.in, nsap.nic.in, your state scholarship or welfare board portal) using the application number you receive. Check your bank passbook for DBT credits.

Common problems and fixes

Problem Fix
Too few or no results Fill all optional questions; check you picked the right state and urban/rural setting
Scheme looks right but the official link is broken Search the department's website directly or visit the office or CSC named on the page
Scheme details look outdated Rules change often; confirm the amount and last date on the official portal before applying
Unsure which of two schemes to pick Read the exclusions; many schemes cannot be combined for the same benefit
Need help applying Visit a Common Service Centre (CSC) or the office named on the scheme page

Fake "scheme" sites and agents

Search results and social media are full of pages using "yojana" names to collect data or fees. Remember:

  • Official sites end in .gov.in or .nic.in.
  • No genuine scheme needs your OTP, UPI PIN or card details to "release" money.
  • Agents charging for "registration" in free schemes are not authorised.

If you have been cheated, report at cybercrime.gov.in or call 1930. For more on spotting payment scams, see UPI scams: what to do.

How to complain

  1. Portal issues (search not working, wrong details on a page): myScheme helpline (011) 24303714 (9:00 am to 5:30 pm) or support-myscheme@digitalindia.gov.in, as listed on the portal.
  2. Scheme issues (application rejected, payment not received): the department running the scheme, through its helpline or grievance portal.
  3. Unresolved for long: CPGRAMS (pgportal.gov.in), addressed to the relevant ministry or state department.

Key takeaways

  • myScheme (myscheme.gov.in) is the government's free eligibility checker and scheme directory, active as of October 2026 and run by NeGD.
  • Answer the questions fully, read each scheme's eligibility and exclusions, and treat the list as a shortlist.
  • You apply on the department's official portal or office shown on the scheme page, not on myScheme itself.
  • Keep Aadhaar, an Aadhaar-seeded bank account and current income and caste certificates ready.
  • Use only .gov.in or .nic.in sites and never pay agents or share OTPs.

Frequently asked questions

What is the myScheme portal?

myScheme (myscheme.gov.in) is the Government of India's one-stop portal to search and discover central and state government schemes and check which ones you may be eligible for. It is developed and run by the National e-Governance Division (NeGD) with support from MeitY and DARPG.

Can I apply for schemes directly on myScheme?

myScheme is mainly a discovery and eligibility tool. Each scheme page explains the application process and links to the official portal or office where you actually apply, such as pmmvy.wcd.gov.in or a state welfare portal.

Is myScheme free to use?

Yes. Searching and checking eligibility on myscheme.gov.in is free, and you can browse scheme pages without signing in. No government scheme requires you to pay an agent to apply.

Does myScheme check my eligibility exactly?

It matches schemes to the details you enter, such as age, state, category, income and occupation. The final decision is made by the department running the scheme after checking your documents, so treat the match as a shortlist.

What is the myScheme helpline number?

The portal lists helpline (011) 24303714, available 9:00 am to 5:30 pm, and the email support-myscheme@digitalindia.gov.in for portal-related queries.
