PFMS Payment Status Check: Know Your Payment and DBT Tracker
How to check government payment status on PFMS in 2026: Know Your Payment by account number, DBT Status Tracker by application ID, and what each status means.

In this article
To check a government payment on PFMS, go to pfms.gov.in → Payment Status, then use Know Your Payment (search by bank and account number, with an OTP) or the DBT Status Tracker (search by scheme and application ID or beneficiary code). The result tells you whether the payment was sent, accepted by your bank, or rejected, and usually why.
The Public Financial Management System (PFMS) is run by the Controller General of Accounts under the Ministry of Finance, and most central and many state DBT payments pass through it. All details here are as of October 2026.
Who this applies to
- Students waiting for scholarships through the National Scholarship Portal or state portals
- Farmers, pensioners, LPG consumers, MGNREGA workers and housing-scheme beneficiaries
- Anyone told by a department that "payment has been made through PFMS"

Note on the website address
As of October 2026, the old pfms.nic.in address shows a notice that the site is now at pfms.gov.in. The homepage also carried a notice of technical upgradation from 8 to 31 October 2026, so the tools may be slow or briefly unavailable during that window. Always type the address yourself; fake look-alike sites exist.
Option 1: Know Your Payment (by account number)
Use this when you know which account the money should have come to.
- Open pfms.gov.in and go to Payment Status → Know Your Payment.
- Start typing your bank name and select it from the list.
- Enter your account number, and enter it again to confirm.
- Type the captcha characters.
- If you changed your mobile number in the bank within the last 14 days, the page asks you to tick a box saying so.
- Get the OTP on the mobile number registered with your bank, or by scanning the QR code with the government's Sandes app, and enter it.
- The list shows payments to that account with date, amount, scheme or paying agency, and status.
Option 2: DBT Status Tracker (by application ID)
Use this when you have a scheme registration number.
- Go to Payment Status → DBT Status Tracker.
- Choose the Category, which is the scheme or portal: for example NSP, PMKISAN, PAHAL, NREGA, PMAY, PMSVANidhi, or a state portal such as Digital Gujarat Portal or DBT-MahaOnline.
- Choose Payment (to see payments) or Beneficiary Validation (to see whether your bank account passed verification).
- Enter your bank and one identifier: Application ID, Beneficiary Code, or Account Number.
- The page shows results for about the last two years.
Documents and details to keep ready
- Application ID or beneficiary code from your scheme portal or acknowledgement slip
- Bank name and account number (and IFSC, for any corrections)
- Mobile number registered with the bank, for OTP
- Passbook or statement for the period
What the statuses mean
| PFMS status or message | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Sent to bank / in process | Payment file sent, bank response awaited | Wait a few working days, then recheck |
| Success / credited | Bank accepted the credit | Check statements of all your accounts; ask bank to trace |
| Validation pending | Your account details are still being verified | Wait; if long, contact the scheme office |
| Rejected: invalid account | Account number or IFSC wrong | Correct details with the scheme department |
| Rejected: account closed / blocked | Account not active | Give an active account; or reactivate (dormant account guide) |
| Aadhaar not mapped / not seeded | No NPCI mapping for Aadhaar-based payment | Seed Aadhaar at your bank (NPCI mapping) |
| Name mismatch | Name differs from bank records | Align records (name mismatch) |
| No record found | Not paid yet, or searched wrong scheme or account | Check scheme portal status first |
Exact wording varies between schemes and banks, so read the full reason text shown.
Worked example: reading the list
A student checks Know Your Payment for her savings account and sees three NSP entries for one academic year:
| Date | Amount | Status |
|---|---|---|
| 12 Feb | ₹6,000 | Success |
| 20 Mar | ₹4,500 | Success |
| 18 Jun | ₹4,500 | Rejected: account blocked (KYC) |
- Total sanctioned: ₹6,000 + ₹4,500 + ₹4,500 = ₹15,000 (illustrative figures)
- Received: ₹6,000 + ₹4,500 = ₹10,500
- Pending because of rejection: ₹15,000 − ₹10,500 = ₹4,500
Her fix: complete the bank KYC update so the account is unblocked, then ask the scheme's nodal officer, through the portal grievance option, to re-initiate the rejected ₹4,500. A rejected credit returns to the government account; whether and when it is re-paid depends on the scheme.
Common problems and fixes
| Problem | Fix |
|---|---|
| OTP not received | The OTP goes to the bank-registered mobile; update your mobile in the bank or use Sandes |
| "No record found" | Try the DBT Status Tracker with the correct scheme category and application ID |
| Shows success, money not visible | Check other accounts and your Aadhaar mapping; ask the bank to trace with date and amount |
| Page not loading | Retry later, especially during announced upgrade windows |
How to complain
- Scheme portal grievance or helpline for approval, rejection and re-payment questions. The department, not PFMS, decides re-payment.
- PFMS "Post Grievance" link on pfms.gov.in for problems with PFMS status information.
- Your bank, then its grievance officer, for rejections caused by the account (closed, frozen, KYC, seeding). After 30 days without resolution, the RBI Ombudsman at cms.rbi.org.in or 14448.
- CPGRAMS at pgportal.gov.in if a department does not respond.

What not to do
- Do not use look-alike PFMS sites or apps that ask for login passwords or fees.
- Do not share the OTP with anyone offering to "check PFMS for you".
- Do not pay to get a payment released; PFMS states that it does not ask beneficiaries for money.
Key takeaways
- PFMS is now at pfms.gov.in; status checks are free and need no login.
- Know Your Payment works by bank account and OTP; DBT Status Tracker by scheme and application ID.
- "Success" means the bank accepted it; "rejected" gives the reason to fix.
- Fix account, seeding or name problems first, then ask the scheme to re-initiate.
- Escalate to the scheme office, your bank, PFMS grievance and CPGRAMS as needed.
